From the Mashriq to the Maghreb

I am interested in Syria, simple as that, and I want to share this interest with you, the reader. The blog will primarily focus on the current events in Syria, though I am sure this will inevitably extend to the wider region. For you that dont know the Mashriq is the Arabic word for “place of sunrise” or generally the east. It is commonly used to describe the area north of the Arabian Peninsular and east of Egypt. This gives a large array of countries to include in any future discussions, including: Kuwait, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel and The Palestinian Territories. The Maghreb is the Arabic word for “place of sunset” or generally the west. It is commonly used to describe North African Countries west of Egypt, that includes: Libya, Tunisa, Algeria and Morocco and again gives a wide range in which to also include in future posts. I do not attempt to put forward any agenda on the blog but merely attempt to stay objective and informative as possible. I hope you enjoy!
